Delete your Midnight Select account

This page explains how to delete your Midnight Select private-chats account and associated relay data. You can request deletion even if you have uninstalled the app or cannot sign in.

Request deletion without the app

Email hello@midnightselect.app with the subject Midnight Select account deletion request and your app username. If you linked a Founding signup email, use that email where possible. If you did not link an email, you can still contact us to request deletion.

Email a deletion request

We will reply to verify account ownership before deleting it, and complete a verified request within 30 days. The reply will explain any necessary verification. Do not send passwords, login tokens, wallet seed phrases, or private keys. Requesting deletion does not require reinstalling the app.

Delete from inside the app

Open You. On Android, open Advanced, then Delete my private-chats account. On iPhone, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
Type DELETE and confirm.

After the relay confirms success, your private-chats account is deleted immediately and private chats on that phone are cleared. You need a connection to complete server deletion; uninstalling the app alone does not delete the account.

What is deleted

Your account ID, public keys, login credentials, username, and recovery data.
Queued messages addressed to your account.
Your per-install identifier hash and Apple push token, where present.
Your invites, vouches, trust level, Founding status, and published communities.
Your cell operator links, any pending cell link or activation codes, and your Cell operator certification.

Your username becomes available for another person to register.

What can remain, and for how long

Phone-number hash: if you added a number, its keyed hash remains for abuse prevention so it cannot be repeatedly used to create new accounts. There is no fixed retention end date. The relay does not retain the phone number itself.
Messages you sent that are still queued for recipients: remain until the recipient confirms delivery, or for at most 30 days.
Encrypted uploaded attachments: may remain for at most 30 days.
Online-time counts for cells you linked: kept by cell ID, per day, for up to 400 days.
Reports you sent to the Midnight Select team: kept until resolved, then deleted within 90 days (at most one year if needed for a legal obligation or to stop repeated abuse).
Chat backup files you saved yourself: we never receive them; delete them from wherever you saved them.
Aggregate service counts: remain without account identifiers.

Other people’s devices and blockchain records

Previously delivered messages can remain on recipients’ devices; we cannot erase their copies. Public blockchain records are independent of your private-chats account and cannot be deleted by us. Deleting the account does not move wallet funds or reverse transactions.

Newsletter and website signup data

App-account deletion does not automatically unsubscribe or remove a separate website signup. Use the unsubscribe link in an email to stop updates, or email hello@midnightselect.app to request signup-data deletion as well. Minimal suppression records may remain to honor an unsubscribe request.
